Octopus Sculpture

Octopus Captured In Wood

Size: 27″ X 10”

Material: Single piece manzanita burl

Method: Hand carved

When you watch an octopus in the wild, it seems to “unroll” as it moves over a reef. The beautiful spots and swirls present in manzanita burl are similar to the mottled patterning of the octopus. The upper portion of this sculpture piece of manzanita burl was reminiscent of the shape of an octopus and the remainder, left in its natural state, provided the perfect “reef”. From head to tentacles to suction cups, the octopus was hand carved over the course of many months creating a sculpture that captivates.
